The National Leadership Seminar (NLS) and Developing Youth Leadership Conference (DYLC) was held at Camp Pigott two weekends ago, April 26th to 28th.

It was a phenomenal experience, and one of the best I have had in my scouting career. One of the coolest parts of the weekend was getting to meet 2 of this years national officers: our very own Western Region Chief, Antonyo Mitchell who is from right here in Section W-1N, and the National Vice Chief, Eric Harrison. Listening to their stories and how they pushed through the hardest times in their lives and still have become national officers was inspiring.

The food was fantastic, we ate Salmon and steak one night for dinner, fish tacos for lunch, and omelets for breakfast, and don’t forget the root beer keg for cracker barrel. It was  some of the best food I have had at a scout event.

The attendance was the perfect balance of being big enough to have a variety of people from across the region, with 79 NLS learners it made getting assistance fantastically easy. All of the NLS staff were very experienced leaders, and had a deep understanding of the complete program. Which helps you see how the information you learn at NLS will be used and applied to real life, both in scouting, and outside of it.

NLS was an amazing experience overall, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who has the chance to go in the future.
